Barbora is a warm, compassionate therapist whom works with adults, teens, and couples. She takes an attachment perspective in her work that client’s respond well too. Her specialty areas include: Anxiety, Depression, Family, Couples and Relationship Issues, General Stress / Unhappiness, Self-Esteem

Barbora also offers therapy in Czech and Slovak languages as well as English.

A note from Barbora:

I come from the Czech Republic and my professional and personal journey went through New Zealand to Canada. I have been very fortunate to practice mental health on three different continents. Through my journey, I have learned an incomparable multicultural perspective and to appreciate and respect each client’s unique story. I enjoy my life in Alberta with my husband and my children and on the weekends we especially like hiking, camping, skiing and any other outdoor activities. I am always impressed by the immense majesty of the Canadian Rockies, where I regain my life peace and balance. I also enjoy reading paper books and travelling.

I have been passionately providing counselling to individuals, couples, children and families and supporting them in their journey to reach their full potential in the past 20 years. I have been helping clients who are facing depression and anxiety as a result of life challenges such as relationship issues, divorce and separation, past traumas, parenting issues, health concerns etc.

I hold a Master degree in Counselling Psychology and I am registered with College of Alberta Psychologists. I have a psychodynamic background and in my practice, I use Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Techniques and Solution-focused approach. I also work from trauma-informed and attachment-based perspective.

Things are often not what they appear, and our past experiences might have negative effects on our self-esteem and self-image, how we perceive things and the way we relate to others. Those past experiences often prevent us from moving forward in life and keep us stuck. I can help you process challenging present and past experiences and accompany you on the journey to achieve better mental health, healthier relationships, and meaningful lives.

I am a Registered Social Worker, an excellent listener and a caring and compassionate mental health therapist with eight years of experience. I work from a client-centered, attachment, and trauma-informed lens to help clients navigate moments in life where they feel ill-equipped or overwhelmed, when they notice negative patterns repeating again and again, when they are struggling with conflict or communication in relationships, or when they feel like they cannot connect to themselves or achieve what they want to.

I am a skilled trauma therapist, helping clients to process recent or historical traumas and their impact on present-day life. I have a special interest in helping clients heal and move past the early-life experiences, losses throughout life, or occupational stressors that have unwittingly shaped their day-to-day life and relationships with family, friends and partners. I am a skilled trauma therapist, working to help clients process historical and recent traumas. I work with clients to help them understand their attachment and emotional needs throughout the lifespan, to be able to heal from the past and shape a future that feels healthy and bright.

Katie strives to provide a judgement-free and accepting environment for adult, couples, and teen clients. She works in collaboration with her clients to help heal the root causes of stress and unhappiness. Her specialty areas include: addiction, trauma, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, relationship, and personal growth.

A Note from Katie:

I began my career in mental health in 2010 working with young women at a juvenile detention center; from there my passion for helping and connecting with others was solidified.

I have experience working with people who are facing addiction, eating disorders, trauma, as well as other stressors from everyday life. Although the journey to healing will look differently for each individual, I am a firm believer in healing the root cause of unhappiness and pain rather than simply managing the symptoms.

I do not believe that people are defined by their behaviours. We are complex beings with different facets that make us whole. We also play diverse roles: sometimes, these roles and the behaviours that accompany them help us achieve what we want in life, and sometimes they hinder us from reaching our full potential.

I am passionate about working with my clients to better understand the needs their behaviours are attempting to fulfill, whether successfully or unsuccessfully, without shame or judgement.

Konstantinos is not accepting new clients at this time

Konstantinos is an intelligent, thoughtful, respectful therapist who helps clients rewrite their life stories through the lenses of hope, courage, strength, and (self-)determination. They have extensive training including, but not limited to, sex therapy.

Specialty areas include: Sexuality & Sexual Health, Relationship Concerns, Trauma, Grief & Loss, Cross-Cultural Transitions, Anxiety, Depression

A Note from Konstantinos:

At times, life gets messy and relationships seem too complex to navigate, leaving us feeling stuck and unhappy. That is when counselling can help disentangle the mess by bringing clarity and opening up for us new possibilities of living more meaningful, satisfying lives.

In my work, I always strive to separate clients from their problems, normalizing their concerns and validating their experiences. Guided by the principles of socially just and anti-oppressive practice, I focus on supporting clients to question and resist socially/culturally sanctioned beliefs dictating how we are supposed to feel, what is ethical behaviour, how we should manage our discomfort, as well as habits and ways of being that are taken for granted but do not serve our needs anymore.

Professionally, I have experience helping people address a range of concerns through my work in post-secondary counselling centres and family therapy. In addition, I have specialized training and a strong interest in addressing sexuality-related and sexual health concerns. In terms of my theoretical orientation to practice, I privilege postmodern therapies, such as narrative and solution-focused therapy, and integrate elements from multiple approaches that I have trained in, (Ex: cognitive-behavioural therapy, emotion-focused therapy, person-centred therapy, and family systems therapy).

Furthermore, I identify as a trauma-informed practitioner, and I always bring an attitude of cultural humility in my work. I am hoping that prospective clients will experience me as open, easygoing, warm, non-judgmental, empathic, having a good sense of humour, honest, transparent, collaborative, and knowledgeable.

I identify as a queer therapist who celebrates gender and sexual diversity, and my pronouns are he/they.

I offer my services in English and Greek.

I believe that the therapy process should feel safe, supportive, non-judgmental, and be customized to address the specific concerns, needs, and goals of each individual. I care deeply about clients’ unique stories when considering how to best help them and believe in the power of personalized care. Through genuine curiosity and listening, I work collaboratively with my clients towards real healing and growth. Whether a person is facing challenges, seeking personal growth, or striving for greater self-understanding, I am here to help.

As an immigrant, I empathize with missing family back home, learning a new language, and feeling alone in a new place. Therapy becomes much more effective when a client feels understood and I believe improvements are more likely if people’s backgrounds and stories are valued. Ultimately, we all want to live a peaceful and meaningful life; I wish to help clients discover their inner potential, cultivate resilience, build greater self-awareness, and pave the way towards personal growth and fulfillment.

Cody Harper is a warm, engaging therapist and registered social worker. His specialty areas include: Anxiety, Depression, Men’s Issues, Problematic Substance Use, Stress/Unhappiness, Grief, Trauma, Personal Growth, Self-worth

A Note from Cody:

Counselling has always been a strong passion of mine. I have been working in the field of mental health and support-work for over 7 years. Each year has reinforced my love for this work and my belief that this profession is where I was meant to be.

I was born and raised in Calgary and I am familiar with the ups and downs this city has experienced and the issues that affect all Albertans.

In my spare time, I am an avid tabletop gamer, film-buff, and writer. I love to cook and I am always looking forward to the next camping trip. Before I chose to work in the field of mental health I was also a member of several music bands and a solo musician for over 15 years. Music has always been an essential part of my life.

Kevin is a considerate, thoughtful, calm therapist whom currently works with adults and teens. He works with a variety of concerns but focuses specifically on anxiety, depression, OCD, stress management, problematic behaviours and other life stressors.

“I seek to strike a balance between understanding my clients as individuals and providing them with something of value each session. While we share much as humans, I believe honouring the distinctive characteristics of those whom I have the privilege of working with requires customizing my approach to their individual needs. Consequently, I draw from various theoretical approaches. By combining my psychological expertise with the wisdom of my clients, I seek to alleviate distress, promote goal achievement, and facilitate personal growth.”

Dan is not accepting new clients at this time

Individual and Couples therapist. Dan is a warm, caring therapist whom works with mental health, relationships, stress and growth. He deeply cares for and works hard to help his clients heal, grow, and connect in life.

A note from Dan:

I have been blessed to have been able to work as a counsellor/therapist since 2005 in various professional settings including health care/government, private firms, non-profit, schools and my own private practice.

For over 15+ years I’ve worked to help people achieve their goals of health and happiness and would love to connect with you also to help you achieve your goals and find some peace. I strongly believe in practicing from the values that I see create healing in my clients. These include truly looking at what matters in people’s lives; understanding that all people want to be happy and at peace deep down; that no-one gets through this life unscathed and hurt occurs in many different ways; and understanding that people respond to these injuries as best they can but often these ways become cemented later in life, hurting them again.

I, like all of us, strive to find happiness and health in my life as best I can. For me this means a balance of work, time with family, pursuing my interests, and growing as a person.

My passions are time spent with my family, being outdoors, snowboarding, hiking, traveling, playing sports, time with friends, walks, and going to movies when I can. While my office is located in Calgary, I live in Cochrane and am the proud father of two wonderful children. I strive to grow and learn continuously in my work, as I believe it makes me a better person, partner, and father. This is one of the reasons I am so passionate about couples and individual growth.

I am particularly experienced with mental health concerns (including depression and anxiety), family of origin issues, and self-growth. I am passionate about couples counselling and trauma and have extensive training in these areas as well. Most of my work has occurred in the Calgary area of Alberta but I have also worked in Cochrane, Canmore, Athabasca and Ponoka, Alberta in various counselling and psychological roles over the years. I pride myself on having a well-rounded and in-depth skill set that allows me to understand, guide and support my clientele.

Dave is not accepting new clients at this time

David Ponak, MC, is a registered psychologist who enjoys connecting with clients in a friendly, engaging and calm manner. David focuses on mental health, men’s issues, and relationships.

A Note from Dave:

I believe the most important thing I can do for clients is to provide a comfortable, non-judgemental space where they can relax and be who they are. In addition to proficiency in a variety of techniques, I regularly solicit client feedback to ensure that I am meeting their needs and expectations.

In 2008, I began working in mental health and immediately knew it was the right career for me. I began working in group homes, then schools, followed by a non-profit counselling agency. I’ve provided therapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups of all ages and from all walks of life. Working in this field since my early 20s, it has been a privilege and a joy to help people improve their mental health and live happier, more satisfying lives.

While I have been fortunate to find a career that provides my life with ample meaning, outside of work I also feel very lucky.

My partner (colleague at Assured Psychology, Davita Mann), dog, and I live in the inner city. We spend much of our free time exploring nearby parks and coffee shops. With my close circle of friends, I love to play board and card games and escape to the mountains whenever possible. When I’m enjoying my own company, there’s nothing I love more than playing squash. When my body needs a rest, I enjoy biking and reading. Striving to find balance in my own life has helped me appreciate the common struggle we all have; to live better tomorrow than we did today.

While I bring substantial experience to the therapeutic relationship, it is the client who is an expert on their own life. I’m continually amazed by people’s capacity to learn about themselves, grow, change, and affect change on their environment. In my practice, I endeavor to provide conditions that facilitate this opportunity for healing.

Virginia is a registered, masters-level social worker (RSW #8049) with a clinical specialization. She is a gentle, thoughtful therapist who works with individuals, couples & families. Sessions are available in English or Spanish with Virginia.

A Note from Virginia:

It is always my goal to provide a safe, warm, caring and non-judgemental space where I hope to support people to find the answers that they are seeking to take the next step towards happier, more connected and peaceful lives. Although I use different therapeutic modalities to meet individual needs, my work is always trauma sensitive, strength based, and collaborative.

Since 2005 I have been working as a counsellor in different capacities starting in crisis, community based, and supportive roles; and later moving onto more therapeutic roles in Mental Health with Alberta Health Services. I have worked with individuals, couples, and families of all ages and all backgrounds, and I feel honored and humbled when people invite me to participate and support them during times of their lives that are vulnerable and difficult. I speak Spanish fluently, and would be happy to offer sessions in that language if needed (or preferred).

I am originally from South America and have lived in Calgary on and off since 1987. I have had the privilege of having lived in other countries in Africa, Europe and the Middle East, and experiencing the richness found in people’s cultural diversity.

I have also been blessed to come from a large, close and complex family and to be a part of my own family with three (now adult) children of whom I am extremely proud. Personally and in my work, I am constantly reminded of our humanity and all the things we have in common, as well as how much we need connection with others in our lives. I love people and I love nature in all its forms. I spend my spare time visiting family and friends, travelling and enjoying nature as much as I can.

I never cease to be amazed at the strength and resilience healthy relationships bring into people’s lives and my passion and the focus of my ongoing learning continues to be supporting people resolve relational concerns and experience the strength, peace and well-being it may bring to their lives.
